POSITION
Summary:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Assist in program and curriculum under the direction of Lead or higher.
Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers.
Essential Functions:
In collaboration with other site staff, support and participate in ongoing recruitment efforts to ensure full enrollment.
Participate in planning the educational program, and assist with the implementation of the daily classroom program, including music, meals, group projects, free choice time and supervision of students.
Implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with Y's values.
Assist lead teachers in preparing and organizing the classroom and materials in accordance with the planned curriculum program.
Complete daily attendance/meal count and/or snack production record.
Prepare and serve snacks and meals; participate in and facilitate mealtime service and join children at the table for support and conversation.
Assist lead teachers in all curriculum implementation, care of children, and classroom management.
Oversee health habits in the classroom, i.
e.
handwashing, toileting, etc.
Administer first aid as needed.
Check indoor and outdoor environment for safety hazards.
Understand and implement the Washington Administrative Code and Early Achievers to ensure program is in compliance at all times.
Provide positive behavior management to promote developmental asset building.
Models relationship-building skills and encourages leadership by example in all interactions utilizing the Y's core character values.
Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging and relationships among youth and within families.
Responds to emergencies.
OTHER POSITION FUNCTIONS:
Work as a team with other staff supervising area.
Attend appropriate Y trainings, meetings and events.
Maintains clean, attractive, safe and functional facilities that meet or exceed Health Codes and Y standards.
Document all accidents and incidents per established guidelines.
Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents/guardians.
Monitors programs and events to adhere to all Y health and safety standards and policies.
Reviews, practices and make recommendations to improve safety procedures and practices.
Makes ongoing, systematic observations of programs to evaluate compliance with Y standards, the code of conduct and child abuse prevention standards.
Participates in STARS continuing education and complete required ongoing trainings as required by the Y including but not limited to Child Abuse Prevention training.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
